Inauguration of the new Dali Museum in Florida

The new Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg Florida was inaugurated on 11 January 2011 at eleven minutes past eleven in the morning.

Princess Cristina de Borbón took part in the inaugural ceremony for the new museum, as did the Managing Director of the Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí, Joan Manuel Sevillano, the Foundation’s General Secretary Lluís Peñuelas and various representatives of Cadaqués and Figueres town councils.

In a modern style, with architecture reminiscent of the geodesic dome of the Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres, the building is the new headquarters of a private institution founded in 1982 in order to preserve the artistic legacy collected down through the years by Albert Reynolds Morse and his wife Eleanor, who were friends of Dalí and Gala for 45 years.

Dali

About « Woman with the head of rose »

Salvador Dalí was a surrealist painter and sculptor Spanish.

He was born May 11, 1904 and died January 23, 1989 in Figueres, Catalonia.

The presentation of this artist who redefined Surrealism is more to do.

Throughout his work, his extraordinary creative power plays with the viewer’s eye, in which the desire takes center stage.

He also knew the world captivated by his sense of provocation.

In 1935 Dali painted a painting entitled « Woman with a Head of Rose ». It is from this painting that Dali created in 1981 the sculpture « Woman with the head of rose.  »

Robert Descharnes in his book « Dali, l’héritage infernal », recalls the moments spent at the Hotel Meurice in Paris alongside the artist. He evokes the realization of this sculpture: « Many things have been made at that time. Especially when it created the Woman with a head of roses, a remarkable sculpture. He had signed a contract with a nice man, William Gelender, today disappeared. »

Drawing Now Paris – March 2011 25th-28th

Le Salon du design contemporain, founded, in 2007 is becoming Drawing Now Paris for its fifth year in 2011. This confirms its concept, which is very popular with galleries and collectors, and also its international perspective.

For this, the fair will take place from Friday 25th to Monday 28th March 2011 at the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris. The private opening will be held on 24th March, 2011.

The fair welcomes 80 european galleries and explore all the dimensions of contemporary drawings with a cutting edge program of digital drawings. The new platform dedicated to the young creation, will introduce 10 galleries.

Drawing Now Paris is putting even more emphasis in 2011 on its desire to promote contemporary drawing, particularly by combining the graphic arts with new technologies.

After the temporary venues which characterized the early years, the opinion of collectors and  galleries was decisive in the choice of the Carrousel du Louvre, strategically placed in the centre  of Paris. They also enjoyed the user-friendly working and visiting arrangements during the 2010 event.
